The SP lost power to BJP in the state and Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister. However, the result shattered the allied parties - only 54 candidates, 47 of the SP and just seven from the Congress, managed to win the polls. The SP contested on 298 seats and the Congress on the remaining 105. The move was expected to consolidate the Muslim vote that would have a bearing on at least 100 of the 403 assembly seats. In the run-up to the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress and the then ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) had sealed a poll alliance. Meanwhile, let's take a look at major alliances formed by the party in previous elections and their subsequent outcome: How the decision to form this alliance plays out can only be seen after the election results are out. The objective behind the alliance is said to be a part of the Congress’ effort to forge opposition unity at the national level and use it to knock out Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the next Lok Sabha election, scheduled to be held in 2019.

The CPI has allied with both the parties in the past. This is the first time the TDP will be joining hands with the Congress. The leaders of the three parties reportedly met on September 11 and discussed the alliance. Kicking off its effort, the party has planned to form a grand alliance with other opposition parties in the state - the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Communist Party of India (CPI). Without considering the welfare of the state, the BJP had instigated an MP to start a new political party, he added.Telangana is heading towards its assembly elections and the Congress has set its eyes to win the power to rule the state. He demanded PM to fulfill the promises that he had made during the last election campaign in Tirupati. In the same breath, the TDP Chief slammed the BJP and said that despite the lack of cooperation from the Central government, the TDP government had laid the path of development for the state.Ĭhandrababu criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that Modi had taken a u turn with regard to SCS to AP. By conveying this at the meeting, Chandrababu has sent signals to his party leaders, workers and supporters that there was a possibility of alliance with Congress in coming elections. The AP CM made it clear that when in need, TDP would not hesitate to seek the help of Congress. Moreover, Congress was promising Special Category Status (SCS) to AP when it comes to power, he observed. Similarly at recent no-confidence motion moved by TDP in Parliament against NDA government, Congress supported the motion, he said. During the formation of United Front government, the Congress voluntarily came forward to support the front. Speaking at the meeting, Chandrababu recalled different occasions wherein Congress had come to the rescue of TDP. TDP had organised the meeting with the theme "Protest against Unfaithful and Betrayal Politics". And this was indirectly mentioned by the AP CM himself at the Dharma Porata Deeksha meeting here yesterday.

Kurnool: Despite resistance from senior leaders of TDP and party cadre, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu has made up his mind to join hands with Congress for the next elections.
